Hi Guys
The next system software update for PS3 will be available very soon. Update 3.15 is an optional update and has two key features which are explained below –

‘minis’ come to PS3:

We launched minis for PSP back in October but from the 17th December you will be able to enjoy these bite size games on your PS3 as well as your PSP. This firmware update allows the minis emulator to work on PS3 and we are working on getting the majority of the current minis ready for the PS3 from the 17th December.

Check out great titles like ‘Blast off’ (8.5/10 – IGN), ‘Fieldrunners’, “a wonderfully crafted casual nugget” (8/10 – Eurogamer) or ‘Kahoots’, “a must-buy” (8/10 – Videogamer).

If you buy a minis game from the 17th it will work on both platforms so if you have a PS3 and a PSP you will only need to buy it once and it will be available to download to your PS3 and your PSP.

If you have already bought a mini for PSP and want to get it on your PS3 as well, just go to your download list in the Store and download it again for free. The game will then work on your PS3 as well. Simple!

PS3 Data Transfer:

Image

This feature enables you to easily transfer all of your saved data from one PS3 to another. So if you decide to get a new PS3 you can make sure you don’t loose any of your existing content. Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3. Other content, including personal media files (photos, music, videos), can be copied onto the new PS3 and remain on the current PS3 system.

The process is really simple

1. Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV

2. On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings menu and select [System Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility]

3. Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data

4. After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB

5. If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system

Another pretty crappy update...

Could not care less about the first feature! And while the 2nd one is good for people with 2 PS3, I'd rather we got the option to create a backup file (similar to the full system backup) just for all our save-files to a external drive, be it USB flash drive or a hard drive.

At the moment we have to back up save files one by one, and some are copy protected (stupid in itself) and will only be backed up via the PS3 own system back-up which normally takes about 6-10 gigs of space even without any extra media.

Wish Sony would create more complete features before rolling out a more substantial firmware updates, instead of these half hearted crappy ones that we seem to get every month.

I think the minis idea is good. There's some quality mini titles, and I'd quite like to play tetris on my tv, that's a quality mini title.

I think people need to stop complaining (Navid lol) about these FREE updates, for a FREE online network.

I like the update, will be tempted by some minis more now.

Yet another reason to run Black Ops, removes the spam from the .sig files :) Also, time to run a DoS attack on that website then methinks.......

As far as the update goes, I agree with Lefty. Yes, it may be that this update is not for everyone (mainly PSP owners and those fortunate enough to own more than 1 PS3), but it's still an update, aimed at improving the overall PS3 experience (and obviously Sony's bottom line)

As Chris said, some of the PSP mini's are very good, and you can't really complain about a game costing £2.49 (well, except .detuned, which was pants, but a great way to earn 10 trophies :) )

 Sony.

Its good if it allows you to transfer stuff like Singstar songs, when I got my replacement 60gb, I had to re-download all 105 songs because you can't back them up. Hopefully this will mean you dont need to re-download anything. Essentially "copying" the HDD

I was looking forward to being able to transfer games and data without having to download them multiple times, but I have just noticed the wording above. Games and game save data can be transferred and deleted from the original PS3. Other media data can be copied without being deleted from the original machine.

This means there is no way to download a game and transfer to another PS3 without having it deleted from the first one. This sucks big time! They are already protected by the 5 activated PS3s limit per account so why do they bother with this? The game, or whatever it is, can be downloaded to each of the 5 PS3s but can't be downloaded to one and copied to the others over the LAN. This would have been really good for me. FFS :arrold:

Would suspect it's aimed at stopping the bypassing of the 5 console limit. Imagine you could run a black market setup buying all the games on one console, and then dump to another with no charge ?

Gotta think like a criminal F, it's what Sony have done

I agree this is why they are doing it, but my point is the mechanism for activating 5 consoles per user account is supposed to tackle that. It may be possible to clone games whatever way, but controlling the activation of consoles will prevent illegal software from being run. A game can be installed on your PS3 but if the account that downloaded that game is not currently activated on that console you won't be able to run it. Perhaps Sony know of a loophole which is why they want to restrict LAN copying of games and data? :chin:

You won't be able to transfer Singstar DLC you can only re-download again. All Singstar DLC is encrypted so it can't be moved from one PS3 to another so it can only be re-downloaded.

WARNING!!! Some tracks may no longer be available on the store so double check all the ones you want are available.
